Like many young people, I didn’t have a clear career calling when I entered my college years. As a result, I pursued a business degree, thinking it was a good generic degree that would provide a springboard for future endeavors. Thankfully, obtaining that degree set me on a path that has led to a fulfilling career.

The Beginning

After I completed my undergraduate education, I was fortunate enough to be hired by American General Insurance in Houston, Texas. While this first role was an entry-level position, it put me right in the middle of AGI’s investment department where I had the opportunity to manage a multitude of accounts for their various companies and divisions. Shortly after I was hired, AGI acquired a New York City-based investment advisory firm. I transferred to the new Houston office and began to manage private investment accounts for high-net-worth individuals, retirement plans, foundations, and endowments for the newly acquired firm.

This experience intrigued, fascinated, and challenged me, opening my eyes to the complexities of the investment markets, along with the breadth of knowledge and experience needed to succeed in this world. As a result, I pursued and received my MBA and completed the requirements for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation. More recently, I obtained a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA®) designation. With this unique credential, I can provide professional guidance while also incorporating biblically-based financial management truths into my financial advisory practice.

Both my education and on-the-job training over the past four decades have helped me to develop a consistent, effective, and successful approach to guide my clients through the financial markets.

A Turning Point

Once I gained a solid investment foundation and found confidence in navigating market ups and downs, I realized that my focus and passion were no longer solely in conquering the challenges of the markets. I noticed that my greatest satisfaction came from guiding others through the financial mazes of life in order that they might experience less worry and more peace of mind and success.

After about a decade in the industry, I truly began to enjoy being a financial advisor and offering meaningful, significant guidance to others. In 2015, I founded Semita Asset Management, an independent, employee-owned organization, to educate, empower, and assist our clients as they establish and achieve their personal and family financial goals and objectives.

The Hurdles and Triumphs

As with any job, there are challenges and victories that come with being a financial advisor. The economy, markets, laws, and technology are ever-evolving, and it can be difficult to stay on top of all the changes. That is why I prioritize continuing my education and training so that I can deliver the highest level of service possible to my clients. Instead of seeing this as an obstacle, I find this challenge an intellectually stimulating and intriguing aspect of my job.

Despite the difficulties, I love what I do. I’ve been in the industry for over four decades and the most fulfilling part of my job is helping clients see the big picture of their finances, create vision and goals, and find strategies that will empower them to achieve those goals. As I see my client’s life goals and dreams fulfilled through the adoption of sound financial plans and guidance, God’s purpose for my career is fulfilled.

I believe we are all called to be the best we can be at whatever job we are doing. I love to work hard to glorify God in whatever I put my hands to, and that includes serving my clients and putting their best interests first.
